Wholesalers in Scotland have been told to break from old traditions and adapt to new trends in the market.
Asim Sarwar, the president of Scottish Wholesale Association, has shared his views on the wholesale market in Scotland last weekend during his opening speech at their annual conference at Crieff, Sarwar said: “In any business – and, indeed, any trade association – progress cannot come without evolution. It’s about understanding what our members’ customers want – whether they are retailers, caterers or other hospitality providers.
“We need to do much, much more to understand our customers,” he continued. “We can do that by working more closely with our suppliers and indeed there are many great examples of where this is already happening.”
Wholesalers Must Evolve
Sarwar congratulated a number of wholesalers who have enjoyed a century long career in the industry. William Yule and Sons celebrates their 150th anniversary this year. Sarwar explained there was a key reason why this wholesaler and many others have survived for so long and that was because they adapted.
“These companies – and others – have thrived and survived because they have evolved,” said Sarwar.
“The wholesale industry in Scotland has evolved and you don’t need me to remind you that our political landscape in the past year – and particularly in more recent weeks – has changed beyond recognition.”
There is a lot of competition in the industry and it’s not been made any easier by supermarket giants but Sarwar believes Scottish wholesalers are up for the challenge.
“If anyone thinks Scottish wholesalers are being complacent and reluctant to take risks, think again!”
UK Wholesale
Nowadays UK wholesalers need to be prepared to change and adapt to a constantly evolving market otherwise they will not be able to succeed.
Pound Wholesale has enjoyed success from being willing to adapt to new trends in the market. We understand customers’ needs change and wholesalers need to be able to supply that need or they will not succeed.
